RARE Antique 1896 S. Sternau & Co. Nickel Oil-Lamp Filler-All Original Excellent Condition-Near Mint This beautiful ornate item is an antique oil lamp filler. It would have been used in the late 1800's for topping off old oil and kerosene lamps. The domed lid on the top unscrews to fill the bowl. A chain is attached to the spout and there is a small cap attached to a chain to keep the spout covered when it’s not being used. The small plunger toward the front of the handle is depressed to allow air into the chamber while pouring out of the spout. The bottom it is marked; S.STERNAU & CO. – Pat’d May 12 ‘96. It measures about 5 1/16” tall to the top of the filler cap and 5 ½” to the top of the spout. The base measures about 2 5/8” in diameter and it measures about 7 7/8” across from end of spout to outer edge of the cast handle. It is in excellent condition with hardly any wear. There is a small area near the bottom of the spout that appears slightly tarnished but not bad at all. Considering the age of this antique, it has been very well taken care of. There are no dents or scratches. Its an absolutely stunning antique. I ship next business day upon completion of purchase. Thank you so much for your interest in this antique item. I hope you visit my ebay store again in the future i
