About the artist: Tatyana Marchenko was a pupil to renowned
Russian painter N. P. Krymov, who created a theory of color relations depending upon the power of light. It gives an artist an almost scientific precision in the search of tone. As Krymov said "... it allows to find a place for the items in the space avoiding unnecessary detail, convincingly render their materials, that means, to portray on canvas the genuine life." After graduating from the Moscow Art College named In the Memory of the Year 1905, Marchenko got a direction from the Ministry of Culture to work in Ufa (Bashkiria). She started to exhibit there in 1939. When the War broke out she returned to Moscow to work as a designer and constructor at a military plant, which soon was moved to Kuybshev (originally and now - Samara). There she started to work for the Windows of the Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union propagandist booths. The placards designed for them were copied all over the country. After the War Tatyana Marchenko came back to stay in Moscow. She actively exhibited and won recognition as an excellent portrait painter. Strong drawing education and a well trained eye allowed her to achieve exact likenesses easily. She also worked as a stilllife and landscape painter.
