For sale is an absolutely charming late 19th century naïve/primitive style Hudson River School oil painting. From an estate near Beacon, New York, right along the shores of the Hudson River. We have sold several of these style of paintings and this, to us, is one of the most charming and joyful paintings in this style that we have ever sold. We are happy to offer it for sale here in our eBay store. The painting is oil on academy board, and appears to be from circa 1880 to the late Victorian. period give or take. Maybe earlier. West Point is the oldest continuously occupied military post in the United States. The vantage point of the figure in the painting is probably from current day location of the Tadeusz Kościuszko monument area looking north up the Hudson River with Storm King Mountain depicted to the left and Breakneck Ridge depicted to the right. In the middle of the Hudson River is most likely Pollepel Island also known as Bannermans island which was private munitions depot and home to Bannerman Castle. This painting has everything, including the classic vantage point looking north, as well as sailboats sailing up and down the Hudson River and what looks to be a Hudson River paddlewheeler or steam ship making its way along the river. Just an exceptionally charming example of late 19th century American folk art primitive style Hudson River Schooll paintings. Most likely painted by a local hobbyist artist in the area. Not signed by charmingly inscribed "Merry Xmas" in the lower left corner. Most certainly a Christmas gift from someone to another loved one who cherished this view of the Hudson River Valley.
