Oil Painting On Board Of President Abraham Lincoln. It definitely has a folk art quality about this painting if you run your finger over his ear in the left side of his head it’s raised. It’s painted on it thin sheet of paper mounted on the board itself, only the head portion the body to collar the tie are all flat with the background but the entire head is cut out including the hair down to the collar, the chin is not flat. I guess the artist never met Mr. Lincoln since he didn’t have blue eyes. The type of board it’s on is hard to describe. It rates somewhere between petrified cardboard and wood. I think we can safely assume it was done during the period. It’s not a copy. It is not signed anywhere front or back, the frame is later 19th Century era. Measures 115. x 13.5 inches in frame. Some chips and surface wear to frame. Light soiling and some loss at edges to painting. Please see images.
