Pair of Original Antique Oil Paintings, Signed Max Weyl. Original
Aesthetic Gold Leaf Frames.
Max Weyl (b. 1837 d. 1914) was born in Germany but emigrated to the
United States as a young man. He was active in the small Jewish community in
Washington DC. Initially he had started to paint as a hobby, and would hang his
work in the window of the shop where he was a jeweler. He caught the eye of a
wealthy patron, who eventually made it possible for Weyl to professionally
study painting abroad in Europe. His art became popular in the DC area,
belonging to the collections of the White House, Grover Cleveland, Woodrow
Wilson, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Georgetown University, and the National
Gallery of Art.
Sailboat signed M. Weyl in lower left, Girl on Path signed M. Weyl on

High Auction Result: Sloans and Kenyon, 3/20/2004, $10,500 About Geddes & Di Folco
Geddes & Di
Folco uncovers value in art so our clients can invest with confidence. Every
oil painting we offer has been carefully researched, cleaned, and restored for
the collector’s peace of mind. We consider pieces from estates worldwide to
find works that intrigue the imagination and remain in our memory, pictures
that are often overlooked because of their discolored varnish and centuries of
grime. Once in our hands each painting is carefully examined and properly
treated. Anything we have listed is in its optimal archival state to be
collected and enjoyed without worry.
Our jewelry acquisitions are determined by careful research and fine estate
pieces that make our hearts skip a beat. We search for pieces that strike a
connection with us, jewelry with a story to tell. We want our clients to fall
in love just as much as we do, discovering one of their most prized possessions
worthy to be a future family heirloom. Each piece is carefully cleaned and
restored, ready to be prized, worn, and adored. Fine Art We specialize in antique and mid-century fine art. All oil paintings have been freshly cleaned and treated as necessary. We do not restore works on paper; however, all framed pieces have UV blocking glass and are housed in archival materials.
Due to the age of our
fine art, there is some wear to be expected. Most gessoed frames will have some
losses consistent with age, and gilded frames will likely have areas of bole
and gesso exposed. This is natural and part of the history and beauty of older
work.
All fine art from
Geddes & Di Folco has been thoroughly examined and is stable and in optimal
condition unless otherwise stated in the listings. The pieces we sell are
original and made by artists and craftspeople, and so there are imperfections
to be expected. Fine Jewelry All of our antique and vintage jewelry items are previously worn and loved, and so all of our pieces may contain minor markings and imperfections throughout. We do our best to accurately describe items and are confident in our ability to assess stones, metal, construction and condition. All items have been evaluated using industry standard testing to ensure metal content and accuracy. All weights and measurements are estimated and approximate.
All of our pieces
are restored by a professional bench jeweler if necessary, and all pieces have
been polished and/or cleaned in a way so as to respect their delicate nature
and to retain their natural patina. Some items can be altered, resized, and
converted, but some cannot. Please keep in mind that custom-altered pieces
cannot be returned. It is always best to contact us with any custom alteration
questions before making a purchase. Important Information While we represent items accurately on our site to the best of our ability, the color calibration of computer monitors can vary, causing colors to appear slightly different from one monitor to another. Due to this, precise color representation of our fine art and jewelry is not always possible.
