This old (vintage at a minimum, possibly antique) and rare two-handled tin metal oil can is a must-have for any history buff or collector of railroad memorabilia. Dimensions are: 9.75"H (11.5" with handle extended); and 8.5"W from handle to spout tip Michigan Central Railroad (MCRR) items are fairly rare, and I couldn't find an exact match for this can with the MCRR marking. Most items used by MCRR during their time of operation were marked with either the previous or following railroad name due to mergers. The can features the embossed letters MCRR of the Michigan Central Railroad. I was unable to date it. The railroad started operations in 1846 and has owned no track since the 1970s. I'd place it from the early to mid 1900s if I had to guess, but that's just my thought and up to the buyer to confirm. The can is very old and has several flaws, including dings, rust and a side handle that is no longer attached at the bottom, adding to its historical character. Its cap is also rusted on but it's possible that it might loosen with lubrication. The chain attaching the lid to the can is still intact. It has definitely had a life and could tell some stories! Sold as is. Please view all photos carefully and zoom in for details, as the photos are part of the description.
