A pair of pendant
oil paintings by Myrl D’Arcy depicting New Orleans French Quarter scenes
painted between 1965 &1967. Myrl
Nick Badinger (d.2020) was a well-known New Orleans artist of Cajun and Creole
descent who painted under the name of Myrl D’Arcy. Her unique personal style is
an expressionistic variation on impressionism with vigorous brushwork and
impasto laid on with a palette knife. The predominate color is blue in various
shades with touches of green, yellow, and orange. Both paintings are framed and
signed “Myrl.” Each painting measures 22
½”x10 ½”x1 ¾” framed, visible area 19 ½”x7 ¾” on 20”x8” panel. Provenance: Duane and Edwina Hull Collection, the date is based on the year (1965) Mryl opened her Carriageway Gallery and the owner's daughter's memory of when she first saw the
paintings. She believes her father purchased them on a
business trip to New Orleans.
