Impressionist Country Road landscape by John Louis Wellington (1878-1965), listed Maryland artist, oil on prepared canvas board, 11 7/8" by 16", signed lower right, reproduction carved gilded frame, 18 1/4" by 22 1/4". John Wellington is most known for his regional countryside scene painting in and around Cumberland, Maryland. Artist graduated from Princeton University 1901, was primarily a banker by profession, was largely self-taught artistically, working/taking instruction at the summer colonies of Cape Cod, Provincetown, and the Berkshires, and actively exhibited through the 1930's at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Gilchrist Museum, Allied Artists in America, American Watercolor Club, and Washington Watercolor Club. Painting condition very good, a couple of tiny spots of retouch, frame shows some active flaking to upper rail and minor losses to the gilding; it will be carefully packed, but I can not guarantee that a bit more flaking will not occur in transit.
