Brilliant original Modernist (1988) study of the 1939 painting form the Saturday Evening Post entitled The Jester by Norman Rockwell . This is a brilliant and very well done copy of Rockwell’s original and looks almost as if it is the original painting. Medium is oil on canvas done in a Realist style. Signed and dated Babs ‘88 in the bottom right hand corner; worthy of further research. In Excellent overall condition. Clean, bright and vibrant; with only the most minimal signs of wear. No holes, rips or tears. Exhibits a pin hole sized knick to the right of the Jester but not noticeable until a much closer inspection is done. Framed in a dual wood frame with white painted interior wood frame and cream matting housed in a rich chocolate brown wood frame. Frame exhibits gentle wear and soiling. Ready to hang. Displays brilliantly! Provenance comes from a large collection purchased from the estate of a southern Massachusetts art dealer. Originally created for the February 11, 1939 Saturday Evening Post cover, Jester is a typical post cover that strived to depict a single situation. However, Rockwell found it more interesting to paint complex feelings. Jester is an example of Rockwell creating a single situation with conflicting emotions. The jester's sad face clashes with his responsibility of bringing happiness to others. Painting measures 14 1/2” x 11”. Frame measures 17 3/4” x 14 3/4”. Please feel free to submit an offer.
