19th Century Oil

Incredible antique 19th century (1895) oil pastel from a long since forgotten artist who was way ahead of her time. This is evident in the folk art, nay, dare I say incredibly early Expressionistic, qualities that this piece features. Depicts a river side mill or dock house complete with figures and boats on the water. Boasts brilliant lines and great capture of emotion. The style is unique and ahead of its time to say the least. The piece is signed in period ink and dated at the base and also gives the School of art in which this was painted although we are having trouble discerning it. Fortunately the artists full name is also in pencil on the verso. The base reads “Ella O’Donnell (Sjodin[on verso]), _amasaghagh? School, November 28, 1895”. Medium is oil pastels on rigid paper board.
In As Found overall condition. Edges chipped and worn. Top left corner broken but present. Almost the entire right edge has been detached and reaffixed by a previous owner. Minimal rubbing. Definitely worthy of framing and displaying.
