This is a fascinating and early Antique Old Midwest Americana Oklahoma Folk Art Oil Painting on canvas, attributed to longtime Oklahoma resident, Effie (Lee) Swan Wallace (1884 - 1956.) This is not much information available on this figure, aside from genealogical records published online. She was born in Wilbarger, Texas in 1884 and passed away in Davidson, Tillman, Oklahoma in 1956. Her obituary mentions five daughters, including one which resided in Oakland, California. That is likely how this painting arrived in location where it was found. This piece depicts a scene of early 20th century rural life in the Midwest, with several family members toiling in a wheat field, with each person playing a role in either threshing or gathering the golden hued wheat. This slice-of-life American agricultural image also features several well-done horses, and a small creek meandering across the landscape. Signed and dated: "Effie Wallace Feb. 1903" in the lower right corner. This is a sizeable painting, at approximately 39 3/4 x 53 3/4 inches. Good - Fair condition for well over a century of age and storage, with dimpling to the canvas, moderate scuffing, edge wear, tears, and light paint loss sprinkling throughout the painted surface. The canvas is also quite loose on its stretcher bars and may need to be re-stretched for optimal display purposes (please see photos carefully.) Due to the large size of this piece, S&H costs will be unavoidably high. However, Free Local Pickup from Los Angeles County, California is also an option. Priced to Sell.
